First things first don’t play with pokeweed berries unless you know what your doing ☺️ they are filled with ✨ Magick πŸ’«
Pokeweed has the power to feed , heal & Harm.
⚠️🚨The berries are poisonous raw & should never ever be picked & eaten 🚨⚠️
Some people but not all have a skin reaction similar to poison ivy.
Very young tender leaves can be used for pokeweed salad but you need to know how to prepare it & you need to know when to harvest. The stem of this monstrous plant turns warning red!
The berries have been used to treat rheumatoid arthritis ,but they need to be cured & dried & then you never ever ever chew them, the seed is poisonous, swallow one berry a day like a pill, but even with this knowledge doesn’t mean you should there are much better & safer treatments now days. It’s also been used to induce vomiting & stimulate the bowels. It’s been used for many things in traditional folklore medicine.
Ok now on to what I actually made here ☺️
Magickal pokeweed ink
Did you know the United States Declaration of Independence was written with pokeweed Berry ink πŸ˜‰
Soldiers during the American Revolution use this ink to write home with because it was typically found in abundance every where.
Magickal Properties πŸ˜‰
Dried berries were used in spells for courage.
Shamans used the purgative medicinal value to rid a subject of demons or evil spirits. It’s also been used to counteract/ break hexes
Or to rid an area of evil spirits or unwanted influences.

*It will stain what ever it touches & can be used as a natural dye, for fabrics &:wood etc. So I use rubber gloves when making pokeweed ink/dye
** Can be used as paint similar to watercolor paints.
*** It makes a beautiful crimson ink to use with a quill pen.

To make I used a quart jar to collect the ripe berries , I had gardening gloves on not because I have a skin reaction ( I don’t 🀣) but so I didn’t have crimson hands for the next month . I used a screen strainer over a glass bowl & my granite pestle. Remove berries from the stem & smash with the pestle to allow only the juice to drip into the bowl. Once I get them all smashed up I used the bottom of a canning jar to smash the juice out of the remaining seeds & skin I strain that juice back into a small jar. You need to add a preservative you can use rubbing alcohol, alcohol or vinegar. I only put about a TBS in you don’t want to water it down, only preserve. Some people add a pinch of salt .
