It’s the first of March & I haven’t done a single seed order !( Wait I did buy 3 Pks. From a homestead group I’m in🤣 but would not consider that a seed order lol ☺️ )
So proud of myself lol I will be finding seed potatoes etc today! But I’ve got one greenhouse full of starts planted in the basement ( all my peppers & tomatoes) but I only used seed left over from last yr. I completely forgot last yr I only planted half of most seed Pks. So I had all of those seeds left over to get me started this yr ☺️
Yesterday I decided which trees to take out, I’ll be saving the long sections of trees to build with ☺️
& I think with a few smaller trees out of that section I’ll have room to add in 2 apple trees ☺️
I’m going to splurge & buy good size trees so I’ll live to see harvest from them 🤣 I’m impatient!
I need to draw out my wine bottle wall…& Bathtub area .
Anyone have colored glass bottles???
I’m not a drinker so it’ll be a challenge to collect enough even though I’m starting with a truck load full 🤣
It feels so good to not have to design the actual garden this yr ☺️ I know where things will go. & Can mix things up next yr for my crop rotation.
Yesterday when I was looking at the small wooded area & deciding where to clear etc I made a mental note to keep looking up, I think placement of the current trees would make a really cool Tree Net 🫣. I know I’m getting old as dirt, but something’s still just calls to me. I’ve always had a thing for heights & who wouldn’t want to snuggle up in the tree tops with a great book or sketch pad. I’m wondering if Indica would be able to walk on the netting 🤔
I’m always thinking of how to help him satisfy some of his natural cat instincts. This might give him a chance to actually climb a tree with me 🤔 yesterday I ordered him 2 porthole windows for the fence, one I’ll place high on the fence with a hammock & steps up to the window ( probably near my tub area), so even though he can’t jump I can add layers to his environment & let him see outside our yard without trying to peek thru the cracks in the fence, the other one I’ll put in at Luke’s height so he can see where those damn squirrels go when he chases them over the fence .
I already foresee a small battle with chickens & the garden so I’ll be adding a few colorful sparkling hanging sections above last yrs rustic fence , because they haven’t really been using the gate they’ve been hoping the garden fence 🤦
I’ll need to break that habit before I really get started planting…. But I have a few cheap ideas to try & who doesn’t like shiney danglings. Hell even a layer of aluminum foil on top a fence for a while will slow down a fence hopping chicken 🤣
But EVERYTHING I want or need from the wild things around me ( mostly speaking of critters here but Ive been known to talk to a tree or plants as well) ALL begins with me just talking to them , so I’ll call a meeting with the young chickens & explain they only get this area of the yard certain times during the yr & the rest of the time it’s off limits!
I honestly think it’s how I haven’t lost a chicken to the momma coon who raised 2 babies right above my coop, or the foxes next door , or the owls in my treetops. Now I understand it’s not a guarantee but I don’t care what anyone thinks it ACTUALLY helps!
& In my chicken groups I’ve learned people think I’m rude, or trying to be funny etc when they talk about loosing chickens to other wild things 🤷 I’ve seriously asked “have you tried talking to them?”
I seriously do not understand the disconnect between people & wild things 🤷
It’s not only Possible to coexist , I could not imagine life without those connections 🤷to me they are the weird ones , those who don’t consider the effects they have on wildlife or the fact they try & force only their needs into their surroundings 🤷
I mean if you keep your lambs in the middle of a lions den wouldn’t ya expect to loose a few 🤷 ??
We as humans should be the caregivers to those wild things around us, you simply CAN NOT run from the city life that you helped create & TRASH! & Think they’ll have huge success in the country by doing the same damn rude destructive behavior 🤬
People built those cities,& then voted in stupid laws all with the back thoughts of denomination over their surroundings & then get angry when they can’t stand to be in their own neighborhoods 🤷
It actually PISSES ME OFF when those kinds of people decide to bail on the mess they created & take those same dominating ideas & try to apply it to homesteading . Wildlings will not tolerate such actions & it’ll be a self inflicted battle they place up on themselves! Do they fail ….most of the time …. Do they deserve success 🤔 nope not until they do the work on themselves first & let’s be honest most never do that!
Homesteading isn’t for everyone, Someone somewhere has to clean up the mess they are creating of this world! & My thoughts are clean up your own damn mess before you move on to trashing other neighborhoods!
An area with miles between actual human homes absolutely is filled with residents ! It’s someone’s neighborhood! Even if they aren’t human they still deserve a place to live as freely as possible! After all it was their neighborhood first.
